Benches have been places of commemoration in the UK and play an integral part in the Netflix show, After Life. This show follows the story of Tony Johnson, played by Gervais, who is left grief-stricken after his wife dies from cancer and his mental health journey.

Twenty-five permanent benches were installed across the UK for the campaign, with each one inscribed with a quote from the show – Hope is Everything. Plaques were designed to direct people to the website of the suicide prevention charity CALM.
